Plane, train or taxi cab, all the choices HIP! LOL NO, I’m not losing it, I promise!! But I need to let you know that at the end of this month I’m going to be going away for a few days. My best friends daughter took a job offer in San Jose, California and we are going to accompany her on the drive out to sunny California. We’re planning on taking our time and stopping to see some of the many wonderful sites this country has to offer. Once we reach San Jose we’re hoping to be able to make the 50+/- mile trek up to San Francisco so I can see something that I’ve dreamt of seeing my entire adult life, The Golden Gate Bridge!
We’ll be leaving either Memorial Day night or the Sunday night before. And I’ll be flying home very late on the night of Monday June 2. I’m so very excited about being able to take this trip, but I also feel guilty…LOL! This will be the first time I have ever gone away from my husband in the 16+ years that we’ve been married and it is also the first time I’ve ever gone away from my kids for more than a couple of days. I know that they will be fine while I’m gone, but I also know that I’m still going to worry about them!
But for once I’m going to be selfish and do something for myself! I need this, I REALLY REALLY need this! Life has been VERY stressful lately, not that it hasn’t always been filled with stress. But the things that have gone on in the past month or so have really pushed me to the edge. I think getting away is going to be just what I need and am hoping that when I come home I will be a little less stressed and maybe even a little more happy!
WOW! I’m almost in tears as I write this and don’t know even what to say! Back on September 19, 2007 I wrote THIS post giving a few predictions for the 2007 football season. The post was in jest, just my own personal thoughts about how I thought the season might go. Little did I know that one of the predictions I made would come true, and off all those predictions, it’s honestly the one I thought held the least possibility of happening.
I’m an avid Yahoo News reader, it is my home page and the very first thing I read when I get online every morning. I’ve been off the computer most of the day doing things around the house and I just sat down and opened my browser to the “typical” headlines considering that today is my states Primary Election. Just under the main headline news stories were links to three more major stories, of which one of the headlines was “Brett Favre Retires After 17 Years” LOL, I’m tearing up just typing those words! No, I’m not a Packer Backer, but I am a fan of Favre! He has had an amazing career in the NFL and has truly lead a life that sets the example of a very honorable and amazing human being!
Never in a million years did I honestly think that when I predicted back in September that he would finally retire after the 2007 NFL season, that it actually would happen! ESPECIALLY after the year he had!
Brett, you are an amazing man and I know that you will be missed, not only by your team mates, but by everyone in the entire NFL organization as well as all of the fans! You set the example of a true role model and have every reason to be proud of who you are and what you have done! I wish you the best of luck in whatever direction the road of life takes you on!
If you’ve been reading here regularly, you know that we recently moved from a house that is, in our opinion, totally unfit to be inhabited. The house has several areas in it that have black mold, on top of that it is not supported correctly and is buckling in a few places and it also has several windows that have either fallen out or are on the verge of falling out. We found out today that the man that owns the house was there the other day with a real estate agent, trying to get them to list it. Apparently they must not have been able to list it for what he wanted to, or they simply refused, because now it has a big “FOR SALE BY OWNER” sign in the front yard. I wish him luck, but I hope that no one is blind enough to what’s wrong with it to actually buy it!
OK, last night I asked you all to cross your fingers and wish me luck at my job interview, and I promised an update when I got home. I forgot to update and you all must have forgotten to uncross your fingers because tonight I had the most AWESOME thing happen!!! To see it, you can watch this
Yes, that’s THIS blog that PayU2Blog drew in their weekly banner drawing! And if you look to your left at that pretty badge in my sidebar, you’ll see that my prize in the drawing was $100!!!!! I’m so excited and so thankful! YAY FOR ME!!!!
And for my update about the job interview, it went pretty good, I think, but I have to wait and see if they call me back for a 2nd interview or not. If they do, then I have a better chance of getting the job, and if they don’t, well, I obviously didn’t get it. I’ll let ya know what happened!!!
It’s been a rough weekend, or at least it started off to be one, but Sunday evening is here and I’m happy to report that although the weekend started off on a rough foot, it’s ending on a better note!
For the first time in our 17 year relationship, my husband and I had an argument that actually made us go to bed without saying good night and end up sleeping in separate rooms. The argument lasted almost a full 24 hours, mostly because I was simply too stubborn to say the first words. Fortunately he wasn’t as stubborn and things are now fine! But let me just say that I now understand how financial stresses can cause marriage problems!
Today we got the news that my husband is getting his first out of town job assignment. He’ll leave the house tomorrow morning around 3:00 AM so that he can be to his shop in time to head out to southern Ohio by 4:00 AM. As of right now the pan is for him to be home in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, but if something happens on the job they may have to work Saturday as well, and since he’ll be working from 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM, he’ll end up not getting home until Sunday at some point. Our daughter is having a ver difficult time at the thought of daddy not being home for a whole week, she’s been in tears on and off since she got the news.
For dinner tonight I made our family favorite, NACHOS!!!! Rather than sit at the table and eat we decided instead to eat in the family room and watch a DVD that we bought the other day. We watched Meet The Robinsons, and let me tell you, I HIGHLY recommend this movie! At first I had a difficult time getting into the movie, but by the end I was TOTALLY hooked and can’t wait to watch it again!
Anyway, I need to wrap things up. It’s going to be a rough night and a VERY early morning!!!
We have a BP refinery here in my area, so when I find or see stories about BP, they are of interest to me. Being a parent, I worry about what the future holds for my children, so when I read things like the BP Whiting Refinery Fact Sheet, it makes me feel good to know that BP is taking the right measures to make sure that their refineries aren’t going to harm the environment any more than necessary.
The fact sheet states that BP will invest more than $3 billion dollars to modernize the Whiting Refinery. On top of that the only water that is released from their refinery into Lake Michigan is 99.9% water and does not contain sludge. All sludge is treated separately and never enters Lake Michigan. I like hearing this fact because I’ve heard all my life about how the Great Lakes are being harmed by factories that allow unacceptable products to be released into the Great Lakes. I think The Great Lakes are very special and important and what can be done to keep them clean needs to be done.
The Chicago Tribune recently wrote an article about The Whiting Refinery that seems to have misrepresented many of the facts behind a recent decision allowing BP to release pollutants into Lake Michigan. While I’m not thrilled about this being able to be done, another story in the News-Sentiel explains the reasons why this is being done and why, even though we may not agree with it, it is something that is important.
Sometimes in life we have to do things that we may not be happy about doing, but we know that in the end, it is something that is for the best. That is what I feel BP and its companies are doing what they are doing at The Whiting Refinery. They are trying to take steps to help the US relieve their dependence on crude oil from the Mid East, which I think is something that is very important. They are going to be using a heavier crude oil that they are going to be getting from Canada.
I look forward to reading more about BP’s Whiting Refinery and the steps that it is taking and I will be sure to keep an eye out to make sure that BP is doing what they said they would do because I think this is a step in the right direction for our country.
My goal when I started this blog was to be fun. I tend to take life WAAAAAAAY too seriously on most days, so I thought that I would make this my fun place to escape from the realities that real life brings. Somewhere along the way, I lost touch with that and got VERY serious here. Not that there is anything wrong with serious, sometimes it’s simply a necessity!
That being said, I’ve decided to take a twisty turn on the blog that I hope you all will enjoy! I’m not guaranteeing by doing that that I’ll post more often, but doing this will give me more opportunities of things to write about. So without further adieu, I’ve decided that I’m going to make this a gossip point. I mean, come on, who doesn’t like some good juicy gossip now and then? Celebs are the easiest ones to gossip about, but I’m also going to try to find local things to add in from time to time as well.
I need to keep things on the light side here, everything else is way too serious right now, and way too busy as well! So stay tuned!
While doing some news reading at Yahoo news just now I ran across a story that honestly made me go DUH!
The title of the story is “Many workers live paycheck to paycheck” and can be read HERE. The story stars off by saying
“Four out of 10 U.S. workers often or always live from paycheck to paycheck, according to a survey released on Monday.”
I don’t find this surprising in any way. Most of the families I know live week to week/paycheck to paycheck and struggle to make ends meet, my own family included. Now I will admit that even though we struggle, you’ll find it hard to get me to say that my family wants for things. We’re very lucky and very blessed in the fact that we either run across great deals or have connections to people that do, so when there is something we honestly need, we find a way to make it happen in a relatively short period of time! We have one item in our entire home that is not fully paid for, but that was something that simply couldn’t have been helped and had to be financed.
The article goes on to say:
“The new survey said 19 percent of workers who earn $100,000 or more annually often or always live paycheck to paycheck.
WHOA, that’s just amazing. I honestly thought that people who made that kind of money saved, but I guess the old adage is true “The more you make, the more you spend”.
Anyway, it’s a really great article to read, so be sure to check it out!
I wanted to let you all know that there are going to be a few “changes” here at justsimplyholly.com Nothing major, I’m just going to start posting here more on “topic” of what I wanted the site to be about, which is Women’s Health. It got a bit off topic and a little more personal. That being said, I’d like to introduce yet another website….LOL!
Introducing HollysHappenings.net Here you’ll start finding more of my personal posts about life in general and what’s going on with me. I hope that you’ll visit my new domain, as well as keep coming here. My hope is that this site will become a wealth of information for women, not only from NW Ohio, but across the country! I do apologize if me adding another site is any sort of inconvenience to you, my hope is that it’s not!
Thanks so much for reading here, I hope to see you here and there!!
I was just watching the noon news when they came across with a breaking news alert saying that Barbaro had been euthanized today. It’s sad to hear, but I’m glad that his suffering is over. He’s now running again in that great racetrack in the sky!
