It’s been a movie watching weekend!

We’re usually not big movie watchers, but our Satellite TV company offered free viewing on a few different movie channels this weekend, so we’ve been taking advantage of it. One movie caught my husbands eye Friday evening and we both enjoyed it so much that we’ve watched it three times this weekend! Amazingly, until Friday night we had never heard of the movie The Worlds Fastest Indian, with Anthony Hopkins, but we now have a movie that we thoroughly enjoy that isn’t animated for a change…LOL!

I’ll give you a brief synopsis of the movie. The main character of the movie is a man from New Zealand by the name of Burt Munro (played by Anthony Hopkins). Burt’s dream was to go to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and set a land speed record on his 1920’s Indian Motorcycle. Without spoiling the movie or ruining the plot, I can’t say too much else about it. But if you like Anothony Hopkins and you like movies with a plot and meaning, this is a truly amazing movie!

Finally, a movie I WANT to see!

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Entertainment, Movie Reviews, My opinion

I’m not a huge movie fan, and I only go to the theater maybe two or three times a year. As a tradition, the hubby and I take the kids to the movies on Thanksgiving Day, after the Lions game, and we usually go on Christmas Day as well. But, as most parents, when we go to see a movie with the kids in tow, it’s usually a family oriented type of movie.

My husband as suggested that we go on a “date” several times over the last few months, but there has never been anything playing that piqued both of our interests. That was until I started seeing the commercials for The Mist by Stephen King! I’ve always been a big King fan and have read most of his books and have seen most of the movies he has out already, but this movie….the commercials for it have me sitting on the edge of my seat!

There was a time when I was growing up that we were so fogged in and you couldn’t even see the driveway from the front porch. I remember being scared because I was sure that if I stepped off the front porch into the fog that something or someone would surely grab me and that would be the end. As much as I wanted to go out and see if there was someone or something out there in the fog, I never did. Instead, I waited until the sun came out enough to burn the fog off before leaving the safe sanctuary of the porch. I’m not sure what it is about fog that stirs up fear in all of us, but I do know that even to this day really heavy fog still scares the daylights out of me!

I think why this movie intrigues me so much is because of the fact that the main character David and his son Billy have been “trapped” by strange mist in a neighborhood grocery store with a large group of people. In time, they all realize that there is something lurking in the mist, but they are not sure what is more dangerous, what is in the mist, or what is in the store.

If you are a Stephen King fan, or a fan of movies that will put you on the edge of your seat, then you’re going to want to head over to the website and check out the trailers for The Mist! I just have to count down the days now until it’s in theaters, which is November 21st! I can’t wait! Can you?

Weekend wrap up, news and movie review…

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Family News, Hello, Movie Reviews, News, Thoughts

It’s been a rough weekend, or at least it started off to be one, but Sunday evening is here and I’m happy to report that although the weekend started off on a rough foot, it’s ending on a better note!

For the first time in our 17 year relationship, my husband and I had an argument that actually made us go to bed without saying good night and end up sleeping in separate rooms.  The argument lasted almost a full 24 hours, mostly because I was simply too stubborn to say the first words.  Fortunately he wasn’t as stubborn and things are now fine!  But let me just say that I now understand how financial stresses can cause marriage problems!

Today we got the news that my husband is getting his first out of town job assignment.  He’ll leave the house tomorrow morning around 3:00 AM so that he can be to his shop in time to head out to southern Ohio by 4:00 AM.   As of right now the pan is for him to be home in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, but if something happens on the job they may have to work Saturday as well, and since he’ll be working from 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM, he’ll end up not getting home until Sunday at some point.  Our daughter is having a ver difficult time at the thought of daddy not being home for a whole week, she’s been in tears on and off since she got the news.

For dinner tonight I made our family favorite, NACHOS!!!!  Rather than sit at the table and eat we decided instead to eat in the family room and watch a DVD that we bought the other day.  We watched Meet The Robinsons, and let me tell you, I HIGHLY recommend this movie!  At first I had a difficult time getting into the movie, but by the end I was TOTALLY hooked and can’t wait to watch it again!

Anyway, I need to wrap things up.  It’s going to be a rough night and a VERY early morning!!!
