The end of a football era

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Football, Holly, My opinion, News, OMG!?!, Thoughts

WOW! I’m almost in tears as I write this and don’t know even what to say! Back on September 19, 2007 I wrote THIS post giving a few predictions for the 2007 football season. The post was in jest, just my own personal thoughts about how I thought the season might go. Little did I know that one of the predictions I made would come true, and off all those predictions, it’s honestly the one I thought held the least possibility of happening.

I’m an avid Yahoo News reader, it is my home page and the very first thing I read when I get online every morning. I’ve been off the computer most of the day doing things around the house and I just sat down and opened my browser to the “typical” headlines considering that today is my states Primary Election. Just under the main headline news stories were links to three more major stories, of which one of the headlines was “Brett Favre Retires After 17 Years” LOL, I’m tearing up just typing those words! No, I’m not a Packer Backer, but I am a fan of Favre! He has had an amazing career in the NFL and has truly lead a life that sets the example of a very honorable and amazing human being!

Never in a million years did I honestly think that when I predicted back in September that he would finally retire after the 2007 NFL season, that it actually would happen! ESPECIALLY after the year he had!

Brett, you are an amazing man and I know that you will be missed, not only by your team mates, but by everyone in the entire NFL organization as well as all of the fans! You set the example of a true role model and have every reason to be proud of who you are and what you have done! I wish you the best of luck in whatever direction the road of life takes you on!

Wild game, crappy outcome, good food!

*SIGH* I’ve never really been a Patriots fan, but I was hoping that they would be successful at finishing up a perfect season! But MAN was that one hell of a game! I honestly thought the score would be much higher than it was! I did not even remotely expect the Patriots to score as low as they did! I’m sorry that the Patriots didn’t win, but, in my opinion, that is exactly how a Super Bowl game should go. Both teams played their butts off, both teams made some serious mistakes and both teams deserved to win. Ultimately it came down to which team played the better game.

I’m also going to give you a recipe that I should have posted before the game. Tonight I made my pocket sandwiches that I make often around here and they not only hit the spot food wise, they also turned out to be PERFECT Super Bowl finger food! So, here’s the “recipe”.

Canned Grands biscuits (I usually use the store brand, but they need to be the larger biscuits)
Thin sliced deli meat of our choice (cut into small pieces)
Shredded cheese of your choice
Toppings of your choice chopped small (i.e. onions, olives, jalapenos, banana peppers, etc.)

Roll the biscuits out on a non stick surface until they are about 4-6 inches across. You want them thin, but not too thin. Put some of the meat on half of the biscuit, add cheese and toppings and fold in half. Seal open edges with a fork and put on lined cookie sheet or baking tray. Bake at 350 degrees until biscuits are golden brown, remove from oven and serve.

These sandwiches are AWESOME as well as being cheap and easy to make. They also refrigerate and freeze well too, so you can make several at a time. The kids LOVE them in their school lunches! You can get really creative with them too! You can use pizza type ingredients and put a little bit of pizza sauce in before you fold and seal them. You can make them with PB&J, just be sure not to use much jelly if you plan on eating them right away because the jelly gets REALLY hot! You can also make them with pie fillings and/or puddings for a type of dessert. If you use pie fillings, sprinkle a little bit of sugar on the top before putting them in the oven and add some cinnamon to the sugar if you use apple filling. If you go with pudding, I like to roll them in powdered sugar.

But my biggest point is that they are super easy to make and if you’re on a tight budget, they’re REALLY inexpensive to make as well! The meat ones go REALLY good with soups, especially Tomato! I’m so sorry that I didn’t think to share this before now and if you do give them a try, please stop back and tell me what you thought of them!

OK, it’s been a VERY long and not so great day and I need to get to sleep!

On a roll baby!! 0-6!

I’m telling you, my “un” lucky streak is STILL going!!! As you read in THIS post, all four of the football teams I rooted for last weekend LOST! In that post I also very clearly stated that I was going to root for the Steelers this week. Guess what? THEY LOST! I also really wanted the Redskins to move in and play next weekend, but forgot about the fact that I was supposed to be rooting for the team that I wanted to lose, so they ended up losing too, which STINKS!

So, you need to tell me which team it is you want to lose, because I can almost assure you that if I root for them, they WILL lose! At this point though, there is one team that I cannot root for if I want to keep one of my jobs. So don’t worry Keith, I WON’T be rooting for the Pats, I promise! So, talk to me people! Tell me what NFL team you DON’T want to see move one step closer to the Super Bowl. If you get in here before tomorrow’s games, your choices are the Titans, the Chargers, the Giants and the Buccaneers. Talk to me!! ;)

Dang Titans Anyway!

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Football, Holly, My opinion

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted the Colts to win tonight!  And not because I’m a Colts fan, but because I wanted the Browns to make it into the playoffs!  They’ve had such an awesome year and I really hoped that they’d be able to continue on!  Did I think they’d make it to the SuperBowl?  Honestly, I don’t know.  But it sure would have been nice!   So, now I’m left rooting for the Steelers since I’ve proven my point about the team I root for always loses…LOL!  GO STEELERS!  GO STEELERS!  Do you have any idea how nauseating it is just writing those words?  It almost makes me sick!  But I’m rooting for them in hopes that they LOSE!

In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about when I talk about proving my point, this is what has happened in the past 24 hours football wise.  Last night I was rooting for the Giants……THEY LOST.  Today I was rooting for Miami…..THEY LOST.  I was also rooting for the Lions……THEY LOST.  Tonight I was rooting for the Colts….THEY LOST.  Do you get my drift here?  Seriously, it’s like every time that I have rooted for lately loses, so that is why I’m going to root for the Steelers.  I WANT them to LOOSE!  Yes, this isn’t being very nice, but I used to have a neighbor several years ago that was a HUGE Steelers fan to the point that it felt like a pulpit pounding preacher shoving religion at you.  I think it’s great that he was a fan of a team, but I’m sorry, don’t try to shove your team down my throat, I don’t try to shove mine down yours, and I wouldn’t even if they had a perfect season.  I respect the fact that each individual person has their own personal preferences.

Just a few predictions

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Football, Holly, My opinion

I’m still unwilling to “predict” who will go to the big game this year in the NFL, but after watching a few pre-season games and last weeks games, as well as a couple today, here’s what I think so far:

Patriots - We’ll soon find out just how much their cheating affected their game!
Steelers - BARF, GAG, PUKE!
Browns - They’re going to kick butt this year and make their fans proud again!
Colts - AWESOME!
Green Bay - I think this year will finally be the year that Brett retires!
Lions - WATCH OUT! This is the team to watch this year!
Falcons - SORRY!
Bucs - With Gradkowski, how can they go wrong. They’re going to show that they are definitely improving!

That’s it for now, just a few of the teams that I felt needed mentioning!

Are you ready for some football??

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Football, Holly, Seasonal, Sports

YES! As sad as I am to see summer wind down to its end, I’m thrilled that football season is finally here! My husband and I are both huge football fans and even though we have our favorite teams, we still watch every possible game we can on the weekend. I’m not one of those “Either you like my team or I don’t like you” people; because I know that we all can’t be fans of the same team, imagine how boring that would be! So whether you’re a fan of my team or even a Penn State football fan, you’re always welcome to stop by here and watch a game with us! Just be sure to give me a call first so I can make sure I don’t answer the door in my PJ’s….LOL!

The game was AWESOME!

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Bengals, Football, Fun Stuff, Holly

Even though the ending stunk….LOL!  But we weren’t there for the end of the game, we were both very tired and I wasn’t feeling too well, so we left at the end of the 3rd quarter.  I’ll have pictures later, after I get the batteries recharged on my camera.  I wasn’t able to take very many pictures because my batteries died before half time.

It was awesome seeing my Bengals in person though!  I seen Carson as they walked off the field at half time, then again as they came back on.  I also caught a glimpse of Chad Johnson!  None of the first stringers played that I seen, except Chris Henry, but the only reason he played was because he’s suspended for the first 8 games of the regular season, so pre-season is the only time he can play right now.

The only “bad” experience I had was the drunk guy sitting in the seat next to me.  Although I wouldn’t really call it bad, he was decent about me cheering for the Bengals, we even talked about how every team needs its fans….LOL.  But the smell of alcohol coming from him was enough to make me nauseous!  Over all it was an awesome experience!  I just wish I had found out that my Bengals hadn’t blown a 9 point lead to end up losing the game…LOL!

Fantasy Football Season Is Here!

Author: justsimplyholly  //  Category: Football, Sports

And I am READY! I’ve played Fantasy Football for a few years now and really look forward to it starting up each year. This year I’m thinking about playing fantasy football at a high stakes site where I can play for prizes! I get hyped up each week watching my stats and since I’ve done fairly well on some of the free play sites the past several years maybe it’s time for me to take it a bit more seriously!

The American Fantasy Football League is one of the most known leagues on the net and just looking at their prize line up really makes you want to sign up with them. At their Platinum level, the prize for the grand champion is $100,000 and a beautiful Waterford Crystal AFFL trophy. So come on everyone, lets play some football!!!!!!!
