Totally LOVIN the Wii!!

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Family, Holly, Our Wii

OK, it’s only been hooked up a few hours but OMG, we’re having so much fun playing the Wii and all the different games that game with it! I’ve always enjoyed video games, I used to be completely addicted to Centipede when it was in the arcades back in the 80’s, and more recently I was really into the OODLES of Pokemon games that my son has for his Game Boy. But he’s grown past Pokemon and he’s now into games that I totally don’t understand. No, not the shoot ‘em up kind of games where you’re stealing cars and killing people, more like the fantasy type games. Since I don’t understand them, even though I tried, the days of hanging out and playing video games with my son, as well as my daughter, have been over for a few years!

That was until I won my Wii! It arrived today while I was taking my son to school, and I waited for my husband to get home from work so that the two of us could hook it up. What I was expecting was for me to read the directions while he haphazardly listened, but instead he read the directions to me and I completely hooked it up on my own. OH YEAH!!

It’s been up and running ever since we hit the power button! First I hopped on and set up my Mii, then I checked out one of the games that came with it that’s called “Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree”, this is definitely the perfect game for ME! I love things that make me use my brain and I know I’m going to love this game. As much as I liked that game, I wanted to try them ALL! So I then moved on to the Sports Pack that came with the game. These are the games that you see on all the commercials, the bowling and baseball games. It also has tennis, boxing and golf. These are the games that really get you up and moving! I was totally thrilled when I scored a 111 on my first game bowling and then I hit a home run playing baseball! All 5 of the games in the sports pack are going to give the four of us HOURS of family fun!

But alas, I had to give up control so that my husband could play for a while! He had been chomping at the bit watching me play! I “thought” I was proud of my bowling score until he played a game and whooped my BUTT! He beat my 111 by almost 50 points…LOL! And although he had a difficult time when he was at bat let me tell you, he’s going to be the strike out champ in this house! He then turned over control to our 15 year old son.

None of us had ever played a Wii before, so everything we do is brand spanking new to us, but you’d never have known that watching my son play tennis! He kicked butt and won his first set! But, as much as he thought the sports games were cool, what he REALLY wanted to check out was one of the other games that came with my Wii Bundle, which is The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess. This is exactly the type of game that he LOVES! And let me tell you, having him out here in the family room playing and laughing and just getting into a game is really cool to me! And his reaction just now when I asked him if he was going to like this game was AWESOME! My daughter hasn’t been able to play yet because she’s not home from her last track meet of the year, but my husband is on his way to get her, so she’ll get her chance soon! The other games that came with our Wii are Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Chicken Shoot.

I’ve already been to Buy.com checking out the other games that I REALLY want! I was checking out their Weekly Deals and about fell out of my chair when I seen that We Ski can be pre ordered right now for just $26.99! Check it out, it looks like a totally awesome game!

Of course, with my upcoming trip to California and the fact that my MP3 player totally took a dump a couple of weeks ago, I could snag up one of the MP3 players that they’re offering in this weeks Weekly Deals so I can listen to some of my favorite songs to help keep myself from freaking out when I’m flying home!

I’m just so glad that I won my Wii, it’s just what we’ve needed to bring us together for more family time! My daughter is home from her track meet and she’s played 3 holes of golf and is on her first game of baseball. Although she’s no where near as good as the hubby is, she’s pretty darned good, she’s been throwing 93 MPH fastballs and is on her second strike out!

Gary Dourdan charged with felony drug possession!

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Gossip, My opinion

I’ve been a fan of ALL the CSI shows for many years. I watch the new episodes when I can and catch the reruns of some of them on an almost daily basis. But the original CSI has always been one of my favorites! And I have to tell you that I have been in lust with Warrick Brown since the first time I laid eyes on him! But his recent arrest and felony drug charges disgust me!

Yes, I know the trend among today’s stars lately has been getting into trouble, going into drug rehab, going to court and having their hands slapped, then turning around and repeating their mistakes. But the arrest of Gary Dourdan, a.k.a. Warrick Brown, goes above and beyond what we’ve seen lately. His charges are for felony possession of heroin, cocaine and ecstasy and all I can say is WOW! Why would someone with such an amazing future put themselves into that kind of situation? Yes, famous people are human and they do make the same kinds of mistakes that us “common folk” do, but I don’t even understand why ANYONE would put themselves in a situation like this! Do people honestly NOT realize how badly drugs mess up not only your life, but the lives of your family and friends?

I don’t know, I probably never will understand people or the really dumb choices that they make that eventually ruin their lives!

You ought to be in pictures. How many times have you heard someone say that to your child? But when you hear it do you find yourself thinking, “How in the world would I even make that happen”?

Yes, there are many reality type shows on TV that your child can try out for, but with the many thousands of people that audition, how good is the chance that your child will actually be chosen? From what I have read, the best chance of getting your future child star noticed is by working with production companies like myartistsplace.com.

Getting the “right” doors to open is one of the most difficult tasks on the road to fame and fortune. Unless you “know” someone, the chances of your child actually being noticed are quite slim. That’s where myartistsplace.com can come in to help your future star. They are not a talent agency or a placement organization, they are more like a networking center that gives children, and their parents, the opportunity of working with other professionals, developing contacts and auditioning for their own internal shows. These tools will give the children, and their parents, the ability to build and practice their skills.

I just thought of something!

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Family, Fun Stuff

I was sitting here watching the news and they came on with a movie review segment. Although the movies they were talking about weren’t ones that I’d be interested in seeing, there are a couple of other movies out right now that I really would like to see! So maybe while the kids are on break we can take them out to dinner and a movie one night! I LOVE going to the theater to see movies, especially since they built the new theater in a neighboring town!

The whole movie theater experience is so much fun! From the arcade games, to the food stands, it’s what makes going to the movies so much fun! When the kids were little I swear they enjoyed watching the popcorn machines almost more than watching the movies. We’d always have to get to the theater early enough so that they could stand and watch them for a while before we had to be in our seats for the movie!

We try to take the kids to the movies a few times a year, and I think this would be the perfect time to go! There are several great movies showing that we all have talked about wanting to see! Now if I can just get everyone to agree on the same movie, we’ll have it made!

What I liked most about last nights Oscar Awards

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Fashion, My opinion

Although I didn’t watch the entire broadcast of last nights Oscar Awards, I did pop in to see what was going on a few times over the evening. I wasn’t a happy camper when I realized that I wouldn’t be able to watch my favorite show because of the awards, but I did manage to find an old show that I hadn’t seen for a while when I was channel surfing, so it all ended up working out.

Here are some of the news worthy things that I managed to catch last night:

  1. First, I think it’s AWESOME that No Country for Old Men won best picture!
  2. Heidi Klum looked like a GODDESS in her gown, OMG what a gorgeous dress!
  3. Miley Ray Cyrus looked like a princess and looked like she was having a good time!
  4. I was THRILLED that none of the ladies wore gowns this year that pushed up their “girls” the same way that most bridal lingerie does!
  5. Harrison Ford is WAAAAAAAAAAY too old to be with waif thin Calista Flockhart and she needs to put some MAJOR meat on her bones!
  6. John Stewart was an AWESOME host! I found several of his quotes from the show online and here are a few of my favorites:
“The fight is over. So tonight, welcome to the makeup sex.”
“Oscar is 80 this year, which makes him now automatically the front-runner for the Republican (presidential) nomination.”
“Normally when you see a black man or a woman president, an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty.”

So, over all I think it was a decent show, or at least what I caught of it. The online stories are saying that it was just what Hollywood needed to bring it’s morale back up after the very long writers strike. I’m not one for fame and fortune, but it was nice to see all the actors and actresses in their fancy clothes enjoying themselves. It’s kind of one of those things that you’ve gotten used to seeing over the years!

Finally, a movie I WANT to see!

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Movie Reviews, My opinion

I’m not a huge movie fan, and I only go to the theater maybe two or three times a year. As a tradition, the hubby and I take the kids to the movies on Thanksgiving Day, after the Lions game, and we usually go on Christmas Day as well. But, as most parents, when we go to see a movie with the kids in tow, it’s usually a family oriented type of movie.

My husband as suggested that we go on a “date” several times over the last few months, but there has never been anything playing that piqued both of our interests. That was until I started seeing the commercials for The Mist by Stephen King! I’ve always been a big King fan and have read most of his books and have seen most of the movies he has out already, but this movie….the commercials for it have me sitting on the edge of my seat!

There was a time when I was growing up that we were so fogged in and you couldn’t even see the driveway from the front porch. I remember being scared because I was sure that if I stepped off the front porch into the fog that something or someone would surely grab me and that would be the end. As much as I wanted to go out and see if there was someone or something out there in the fog, I never did. Instead, I waited until the sun came out enough to burn the fog off before leaving the safe sanctuary of the porch. I’m not sure what it is about fog that stirs up fear in all of us, but I do know that even to this day really heavy fog still scares the daylights out of me!

I think why this movie intrigues me so much is because of the fact that the main character David and his son Billy have been “trapped” by strange mist in a neighborhood grocery store with a large group of people. In time, they all realize that there is something lurking in the mist, but they are not sure what is more dangerous, what is in the mist, or what is in the store.

If you are a Stephen King fan, or a fan of movies that will put you on the edge of your seat, then you’re going to want to head over to the website and check out the trailers for The Mist! I just have to count down the days now until it’s in theaters, which is November 21st! I can’t wait! Can you?

Brittney, Brittney, Brittney

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Gossip, My opinion

OMG, I am getting so tired of hearing about Brittney Spears! It saddens me that such a promising young person has once again gone down the wrong path. What makes this case different than some of the others is the fact that there are small children involved. I applaud the judge for ordering her to take some parenting classes and random drug testing. But I can’t help but wonder why the judge didn’t go one step further and order Spears to undergo mandatory addiction treatment, because it’s fairly obvious that she has a problem!

Feel like using your brain a bit?

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Fun Stuff

I try to keep things fun and light hearted here, and even though this one may require the use of some brain matter, I promise you it won’t hurt….LOL! I have a little puzzle for you to solve, I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.

We’re going to do a word scramble that has to do with one of my all time favorite bands, The Police. I have fond memories of my teen years that have music from the Police entwined in them, so to do a word scramble involving their songs was TONS of fun! Let’s see how you can do:
1 ualtofl
2 ouon ttxey
3 oylselno
4 nnebhg ttrhigoni
5 e etvekruaeyrhta boy
6 ycirysotnicn
7 irs a kut tnepwyonoifglos
8 as poidi sit larhitletrmernw
9 c rtdeleganbat a
10 esblnvisiun i

To say the least I was THRILLED to find out that for their 30th anniversary The Police were going to release a double-disc CD collection of their best songs! Probably the one that sticks out as my all time favorite is Every Breath You Take! The Syncronicty album was released the year I graduated from high school and my friends and I did a LOT of partying to it! One of the first times I heard the song was when a group of us were in a friends barn playing barn ball. Everyone stopped on the spot and listened to the song. It was kind of funny because when the song was over it was back to the game as if nothing had happened….LOL! I have many good memories to all of the songs from The Police, but that one is probably one that stands out the most!

Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live

As promised, here are the answers to the Word Scramble:
1 Fall Out
2 Next to you
3 So Lonely
4 Bring on the Night
5 Every breath you take
6 Syncronicity
7 Walking in You Footsteps
8 Spirits in the Material World
9 Reggatta de Blanc
10 Invisible Sun

Although I usually don’t follow things like this

Author: justsimplyholly  /  Category: Entertainment, Gossip

I will be the first person to admit that I am THRILLED that DNA evidence has shown that Howard K. Stern isn’t the father of Dannielynn! It’s not that I don’t think he’d be a good father; it’s more that I don’t think his intentions were genuine when it came to being the father of the child of the late Anna Nicole Smith. I think Larry Birkhead’s intentions were true to this child and that he is going to be a very caring and loving father!
