Just a little too cold for riding

While I did spend my fair share of riding a motorcycle in weather conditions that probably shouldn’t have been ridden in, there has only been one time that I was on a motorcycle during cold weather. A few months before my husband and I were married he had had his motor cycle in the shop getting some work done on it. He took it in in early October, but told them it wasn’t a rush to get the work done, thinking it would only take them a couple of weeks.
It took them almost six weeks and by the time they called him to say it was ready to be picked up, there was more than a couple inches of snow on the ground. We waited a couple of days hoping the weather would clear up and/or warm up, but that wasn’t going to happen. See, we didn’t have a truck or trailer at the time and the only way to get the bike home was to ride it. But if we left it at the shop for more than 5 days after they called letting him know it was done, they’d start charging storage.
We ended up having a friend drive us up to the shop where it was. The weather on the trip up there was cold but decent. But by the time we got the bill paid and took care of the paper work, it started snowing again. We almost changed our minds, but ended up saying lets go for it and hit the road. That was the longest and coldest motorcycle ride I have ever taken in my life and by the time we got home, we were both almost frozen solid!
Anyway, something that I heard on the news today reminded me of that cold motor cycle ride. A man was out riding last night and ran a stop light and ran right into the side of a car. He was wearing a helmet so even though he was injured, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad if it would have been if he wouldn’t have been wearing one. And since he was the one that was at fault and got the ticket for the accident, I doubt he’ll be checking out motorcycle accident attorneys when he gets out of the hospital. All I can think of is how cold it was last night, and it was rainy as well. And anyone that has ever ridden a motorcycle knows that when those two weather conditions are happening at the same time, it’s definitely not the time to head out riding!

You make me cold just thinking about riding right now! The bike is safely tucked in our guest room right now, and I don’t even want to think about taking it out.
I can say I’ve never had to ride in snow, but Hubby rode the bike everyday the past two winters rain/snow or shine. We went through 1 winter a couple years ago when our car broke down and he had to drop me off at 6:30am every morning on the bike in below freezing temps. I spent about $800 on snowmobile gear that winter just to keep myself warm for the 7 minute ride. After we got through that winter I said NEVER again!

We rode on the 26th, for our wedding, I can’t wait to get the pics of me on the back of the bike in my dress(no coat) followed by 4 other biker friends in complete leather, lol. Brrrrr!
