The good and the bad…

It’s mid November and we have yet to turn our furnace on. It’s not that it hasn’t been cool enough to turn it on, because it has! It’s just that we want to see if we can heat the house using the wood burner. So far, it’s not been that bad, the mornings can be a bit chilly until the fire gets going. We’ve also used a small electric heater in the front of the house during the days that it’s been really chilly.
I don’t mind heating with the wood burner, we used it quite a bit last winter, and wood is definitely less expensive than LP right now. The cost of LP is the biggest reason we haven’t turned the furnace on yet. It wouldn’t be so bad if we were on some sort of plan where they’d come out monthly and top the tank off if needed, but we can’t do that. So right now we’re on an “as needed” delivery, which requires payment in full on the day of delivery, which can be a bit pricey, especially considering the company we use has a 250 gallon minimum delivery.
The only “bad” thing about heating with the wood burner is the fact that sometimes the wood burner gets to “cooking” so hot that you “think” you want to put shorts and a T-shirt on. If you don’t, you’ll end up sweating like you would if you were kicking back in a sauna. I guess the upside to sweating like that is the fact that it would assist the diet pills you’re taking to help you lose weight. But I’m not a very big fan of sweating…LOL! The other “bad” thing about heating with wood is the fact that not all wood burns the same, and sometimes you end up with a log that burns slow and gives good heat, but the next log you throw on will burn fast and give you barely any heat. It’s a guessing game more than anything. But at least it’s less expensive than LP!
Speaking of cold weather, I thought you might like to see a couple of pictures of what showed up outside of my windows today!
It did eventually stop, and now the majority that was on the ground has melted, but the snow was coming down pretty heavy for about an hour. It we hadn’t have had such warm weather this past week that warmed up the ground, we might have been in trouble…LOL. It if would have stuck, it would have been perfect snowman type snow, it packed really nice!

Oh good grief. Snowing already. Brrrr. I don’t like that stuff. The weatherman said we could get some snowflakes tonight. I hope he’s so wrong. LOL
Love ya!!

We haven’t turned our furnace on yet, either. Every year, I try to see how long we can go before we have to. We have a little over half a tank now, and I want to top it off before we use too much of it, to keep the cost down. We’ve been known to make one tank of oil last for a full heating season. Last year, we bought an oscillating electric heater for the bedroom, that that has really helped keep the heating costs down.
I am NOT looking forward to the oil tank fill up. I just hope the cost has gone down at least somewhat as much as gasoline has! Probably not, though.
