I can’t rest

I’ve tried, but I can’t stay in bed….LOL! Looks like I may end up taking my computer downstairs. Yes, I do know how strange that sounds, but you have to know me to know how not strange it sounds!
In case you’re wondering why I’m supposed to be staying in bed and off me feet, here’s the lowdown. I’ve had some swelling going on in my feet and ankles for a couple of weeks now. I put myself on some over the counter water pills that seemed to be keeping the worst of it at bay. On Wednesday night my husband noticed that my ankles were swollen significantly, and he touched one of them. His light touch left an indentation that did not immediately go away. As a matter of fact it stayed indented for well over a minute. That was not the kind of swelling I had been dealing with the past few weeks. What had been happening was when you touched the swelling it would leave a white mark that would go away quickly.
So, fearing the worst, I tried to get into the doctors yesterday. The doctor I’ve used couldn’t get me in until Monday and suggested that if I thought it was bad enough I should go to the emergency room. I called around for another hour trying to find a doctor that would A). take my insurance and B). could get me in within 24 hours. I was unsuccessful and decided that my only option was to go to the emergency room. That turned out to be a nightmare. I got a nurse that was a complete witch who belittled me for even coming to the emergency room for what she deemed wasn’t an emergency and then demeaned my fear by saying “You know, this really isn’t something that’s bad, I’ve seen much worse”. When she said that, I walked out. OK, maybe swelling of the feet and ankles isn’t “that bad” to her, but I was terrified because I’ve never had swelling like this before and feared that with other symptoms I was having that something could be wrong with my heart.
I headed over to my best friends house to cry on her shoulder for a while and make a phone call to that hospitals customer service line, which I “probably” could have handled a little bit better. My friend asked my if I had considered going to an Urgent Care Center. I honestly had no idea we even had any of these in the area, I thought they were a thing of the past. So after I calmed down and drank a glass of tea, I headed off to the Urgent Care Center.
I had a doctor that was awesome, and the staff was just as pleasant. He also was concerned that it could be heart or even lung problems, so he had a series of lung and heart x-rays done as well as an EKG and blood tests. I’m THRILLED to say that the x-rays and EKG came back very good, ruling out heart and lung problems. We’ll have to wait a few days on the bloodwork to see what that shows. But he is thinking along the lines of problems with my thyroid, which I can deal with.
But our first treatment goal is to get the swelling down, which is why I have to be off my feet. And with some things that I need to get done online, that’s why I’m thinking about moving my computer downstairs.
